My future job

Hi everyone! Today I talk about my future job.

My career has two main parts, physical and human geography, I would like to follow the physical part, I like it because it studies and describes the surface of the Earth in its physical, current and natural aspect.

Now regardin respect to my future job, it would be to devote myself to research. I would like to be able to carry out different investigations that can help future geographers, so I would be interested in doing these in different universities and so I could give myself that little "freedom" to be able to travel to different parts of the world, besides in geography to dedicate myself to this, means to work outdoors and indoors. But currently, the only thing I think, is that after finishing the degree I would like to get some masters in oceanography and climatology.

And you? would you like to work at the Academy?

ELECTION DAY

Hello to everyone!

Today I will be talking about Election Day.

For me it is very important the people's opinion about public position, for me democracy is the opinion and decision of the people.

I am going to vote for the next presidential elections, I think it is important, today more than ever, since everything that has happened in Chile this last time shows that we can make a change.

Now my opinion about the electoral campaigns that is the moment when politicians lie the most, it is where they buy the people's vote, promising things that they never deliver. I think that a perfect politician is one who knows how people live, who understands and has empathy for the people, but it is never like that. I think I couldn't ever run for public position, I think the atmosphere in those spaces is very negative.

Finally, if I think of any constructive criticism to the electoral campaigns, I cannot say one, since I think it is time to make a change in the campaigns, I cannot understand that we normalize that politicians lie enormously in these.

What do you think about that?

My Favorite Children Program

 Hi everyone!

When I was little my favorite children's show was "31 Minute". This program was a news show in a city of puppets, so everyday situations were portrayed in puppets. They also had a musical section, where every week a song by a new puppet was premiered.

I remember that in its beginnings it was transmitted on TVN channel on Saturday mornings, which made it more special for me, since this program was attractive for both, children and adults, so it was a panorama for me and my family to watch 31 minutes on Saturdays in my pajamas.

It was an excellent program, even last year they aired 31 minutes on Cartoon Network again, but now I see the programm with my little cousin.

And you?..... What is your favorite children's program?

The Best Concert ever

Hi everybody! Today I'll talk about the best concert I have ever been to.

First, to put it in context, I really like a band called "Churupaca" which is of Argentine origin, and all its members are composers and producers. What I like most about this band is the amount of instruments and the lyrics of their songs.

That said, Churupaca performed a concert in November 2018, at Club Chocolate, the place was small, so it looked and sounded great. I went to see the concert with my boyfriend in the first row, we could danced and sang all the songs. I always say that, after the concert I fell much more in love with the band since it sounds the same as in their records, besides, as all the members are producers, each one plays at least 4 instruments, so each song sounds different! Also, as I mentioned, their lyrics are beautiful, all with a very special emotion and feeling!

I recommend you to listen to a little bit of this band!

And you? Have you had a similar experience?

THE WORST PLACE I HAVE BEEN

Hi everybody! Today I'll talk about my experience with this topic "The worst place I have been".

I think the worst place I've ever visited is Tacna. This city was officially founded on June 25, 1855 during the Peruvian Republican age. Since the 40's, the city has experienced a strong demographic growth accompanied by a constant migratory flow. It is the principal city on the border between Peru and Chile.

Two years ago I went with some friends to Peru, we enjoyed a trip of almost three weeks visiting different cities, which I found very beautiful because they have an enviable architecture. But when we arrived at the last city on the itinerary (Tacna) it was a disappointment. For me it was the worst place I have ever visited, because first, it was nothing like the rest of the cities I had known in Peru, it was very messy, the streets were very dirty, the architecture was very damaged, and the weather was very hot, without any shade. Second, I had a very bad experience with the place where we were staying, because they tried to swindle us with 50 thousand Chilean pesos. And thirdly, they tried to rob me and my friends in broad daylight, even at the side of the police.

So I think the whole experience related with Tacna was very bad. And you?? Have you had a similar experience?

My blog experience

Hello everybody!

My experience with learning English is good, I think I have been able to develop different skills, especially speaking. I think that speaking in English is one of the biggest fears we have when learning English, we have this constant fear of making mistakes, but since I entered the University I understood that it is part of learning a new language. In relation to writing, I think that blogs are a very good learning strategy because blogs talk about everyday things that we could talk about with friends, they use a freer language, I really liked the dynamics of blogs.
But one of my skills that I have to improve is listening, I think it's still a problem having to listen to people speak English very fast, but I think to improve that, the best thing is to watch movies, series or videos without subtitles, and work on that skill more.
Finally, knowing English today is essential. I use English quite a bit in my career, since a lot of research are in English.

Do you use English a lot in your career?

How have I changed?

Hello, everybody!

Today I'll tell you how much I've changed.
I think about the past, and I see myself as a schoolgirl. I remember that the problems were always the end of the world, I was very overwhelmed and did not look for quick solutions, even that's why I always had stomach pains and felt bad.
I also remember that I was very insecure with my body and was always thinking about how to be well off under the margins of society, how ridiculous! Today I think that by loving your body, you can be whatever you want with it.

But, one of my biggest changes and of which I am very proud, is that before for me everything had to be planned, I planned everything, but everything! Even my future was very well planned, which obviously frustrated me a lot when things didn't turn out the way I wanted. But I understood, I think that the hard way, that It's good to want things, but if there are changes do not get overwhelmed and you need to think that everything is for the better. That I think is one of my big and best changes.

What was your best change?

The subject i'm enjoyed this semester

Hello everyone!

This year, one of my favorite subject was Soil Geography.
It is a course of analysis and interpretation of soils, in the classes we see their characteristics and genetic processes, evolutionary and dynamic, for the management of analysis methodologies in laboratory and field.

It is a very entertaining course, I would have liked more if the classes had not been online, because it is a course where there is a lot of field analysis.

Within the contents we have been able to see the study of the soil and its importance, the soil as an open and dynamic system, that is to say that it is in constant change, the factors of soil formation, that is to say how it affects it, the climate, vegetation, organisms, time, among others, its structural components and elements of analysis, notions about soil chemistry and characterizations to determine the quality of the soil.

For me this is a very interesting topic, since according to me knowing the composition of the soil is the basis of a geographer, so it has been my favorite course of the semester. I also liked very much how the teacher tried to deliver the knowledge of analysis soil through videos, as it allowed me to try certain analyses at home.

So i'm happy with this subject.

Career Related Website

Hello everyone!

My favorite site related to my career is Windy, it is a site that offers interactive weather forecasting services all over the world. It is a site with very accurate information, easy to use and even more to interpret and with a powerful density of information layers to adapt it to whatever our needs are.
And I love it for that, because besides seeing the weather forecasts, you can get information about the concentration of C02, sea temperatures around the world, amount of rain that will fall and the one that is falling, the amount of clouds, wind speed, among others.

It is a jewel for geography, I use it all the time, because it gives very valuable information, to be able to make studies of forecasts and impacts in the environment, but also it can be used because it is very entertaining, interactive and explanatory.

I recommend using it, is very easy to use, you can download it for iPhone, Android, or it can also be used without any installation, directly from the web. I leave the link so you can navigate and discover everything that happens on earth.

What are you really into?

Today I'm going to talk about my quarantine hobbies. On days in quarantine and with a lot of free time indoors, I look for entertaining things to do. My first hobby is that in one hour of the day, it can be in the morning or in the afternoon, I exercise (I have always tried to apply exercise in my life), but now with more time I have been able to do it every day. My second hobby is watching movies, I like very much to do research on actors or directors and then watch a couple of their movies. My third hobby is new, I researched a lot, since the quarantine and world situation had me anxious and stressed, so now before sleeping I do a series of breaths and meditations based on "mantras" which calms me a lot. And my last hobby is new too, I read, but this last weeks I have been interested in reading about different philosophers, I love to learn about how their thoughts, reflections, and visions about the world.
And those are my hobbies and I think the last hobby is the one that has obsessed me the most these last weeks.

See you in the next blog!!

My favorite Picture

Hi everyone!

Today I'm going to talk about my favorite picture. So this picture is one of my favorites, it was taken in 2016. That year I travelled to Germany for three months as an exchange student, because as I mentioned in another of my blogs, I studied at a German school, so that year I was able to go and visit many places. As the distances within Europe are not so long, I decided to travel to Italy. Since I was a child I have been very interested in Italian culture, because of its language, charisma and food. One of my favourite places was Pisa, it's a very small Italian city, the Italy that you see in the movies. This photo was taken by my friend Paulina (schoolmate in Chile), the photo shows the river Arno, which crosses the whole city of Pisa, you can see the Italian architecture and the Church of Santa Maria della Spina that is literally on the river bank. I really like this picture because the sky looks fabulous. My stay was very close to that place so I have many memories of that view. And a freaky fact is that the best pizza I've ever tasted was in Pisa.

Things that catch my attention on the street

Hi everyone!

The thing that catches my eye on the street is the number of stray dogs. And I've noticed that when you look at them and tell them something, they always wag their tail, and they approach you and don't leave you until you go in somewhere. I love that even though dogs are the most faithful animals, the stray dog has a more humble and grateful attitude of any gesture you make to them. For example one day I was in the virgin of the San Cristobal hill and a dog approaches me and I gave him water, I believe that so much its gratefulness, that when lowering the hill and directing me to the subway it was all the time with me, until I entered the subway. I like dogs a lot, and I hope that someday all those dogs that are in the streets have an owner to love.

See you in the next blog!!

My favorite piece of tech

Hi everyone!

I've never been interested in technological things, like consoles, camera, computers or the cell phone. I even change my cell phone when it doesn't even turn on anymore. But as I mentioned in another post, I love to spend my time watching movies, series, short films, videos, etc.  That's why I discovered SmartTV, which I think is my favorite piece of technology. Last Christmas I bougth a SmartTV, for me it's very cool, now without realizing it I'm watching whole afternoons of series and weekends are of movies for sure.  I really like that it is connected to the Internet, and can do all kinds of things, even listen to music, I feel that it has many fun features.  Now Can I live without a SmartTV? Yes, of course I can. But still, I hope it is in my room much longer.

Why did I choose my study program?

Hi!
When I was child, I wanted to be a vet, just because I loved dogs. Then when I was in high school, I wanted to study commercial engineering, because I thought that I liked numbers. Parallel to this, I always liked being in contact with nature, I was always adventurous, I taking a backpack and going into the forest or mountain, but that It was never important to me for choose my career, until I did PSU, and I didn't get the score.
When I didn't enter the University, I took a sabbatical year in which I dedicated myself.  And thanks to that year I understood that I didn't want to work in an office, I liked nature and I want to work on it, so I found Geography, I fell in love with the study program immediately.
I did the PSU and I entered the University of Chile, my first option. I have had a very good experience so far, I like the approach they give to the career, I think the University gave me much more than I expected from the geography.
I hope that when I graduate from my degree, I will get my dream job, I still don't know what area to focus on, but I would like to do research for the Academy. I hope to be able to contribute with my knowledge.

My Autobiography

Hi everyone!

So, I was born in 1998, in Maipu. I live in a neighbourhood that is on the outskirts of Maipu, called "Villa Los Héroes." Where I live is very calm and quiet, I love it, we have a garden at home and many parks nearby, so I was able to enjoy my childhood very much with my family.

I live with my Mom, my Dad and my older brother, I am the "little girl of the house".  My brother is 5 years older than me, we had always a good relationship, I have many memories with him, but soon he will go live alone.

I studied at a German school which allowed me to learn this language, and when I was in the fourth grade, I travelled to Germany by school exchange, to improve the language. Today I am a little forgotten because it is very difficult to practice it in Chile. And now I am at the University of Chile studying Geography, it is a very beautiful career, and I love learning it.

And finally my hobbies, I just exercise every day for one or two hours, and I spend time with my boyfriend. I like to watch movies, listen to music and spend time with my dog Frida, she is beautiful and a very good company.

She is Frida and she is 10 years old, she is very special in my life.
